Explicit vs Parametric Modeling... 1

I have reviewed some information on CoCreate and found that I still have a hard time understanding their explanation of explicit modeling. I understand the all modeling is done in a fully rendered state. Is CoCreate and the whole explicit modeling package meant for designing concepts in a different manner than parametrically with Pro/E? or is this something that PTC sees as the new modelling paradigm?

Explicit Modelers like Co-Create and SpaceClaim allow for quick changes to be made to geometry without having to decipher the history tree of the model. No matter how the model was created the key marketability of the Explicit modeling approach is ease of use and regeneration savings.

While most parametric modelers have the ability to modify geometry in a similar fashion, most of them add even more features to the part tree. Co-Create is better suited for companies that need to quickly model parts without needing to develop a game plan or needing to drive designs with Parametric Equations and rules which many of us find useful.

I think Co-Create is marketed towards smaller companies that don't really need or use complex Surfacing and traditional Feature Based design techniques. If you are interested in a more powerful Explicit & Parametric system try looking at SolidEdge or NX with Synchronous Technology.

PTC is trying to broaden their customer base and co-create can be a great fit for many small-medium size businesses. Explicit modelers have been developed over the last few years and have a lot of redeeming qualities in simplifying the design and modification process.
