difficulty with exploded view in Wildfire.

When I used Pro/2001 and earlier, I was able to create an exploded view which would allow me to rotate an object about an axis or edge. This was very useful in displaying an open door in a drawing view. However, I don't seem to be able to do it in Wildfire.

How can I show an open door in a drawing view when the door is constrained in the closed position? Maybe I'm missing something and y'all can help me out. I know I could assemble an additional door in the open position and just blank one in the drawing, but I think it so much better to do it as an exploded view.

Thanks in advance,
SrG.

I've never thought of that as a way to show an assembly in multiple states. Usually I make a family table and show the different instances, but this is just as good AFAIK

Explode states can be set in View-->View Manager. The dialog box that pops up has an "Explode" tab. It takes a bit of getting used to, but the basics (moving components around, etc) are the same as what you are used to.

In the drawing, when you go into the view properties, there is a View States option in the dialog box. You can set which explode state is to be shown in that menu.

You're right- Blanking parts out on the drawing is something I try to avoid too. Last thing I would want would be to have a mistake pass down on the BOM and then end up with twice as many doors as I need!

Yes, I'm familiar with the menus/dialogs/options in making an exploded assembly but I need to know where is the function for rotating a part referencing an axis or edge.

I was able to do it in 2001 but the rotate option doesn't seem to be available in the wildfire options. Any suggestions? There are 2 work arounds, either create a family instance with an open door or add an open door and blank the closed door in the drawing view. But the best solution would be to rotate it in an explded assembly.

Does anyone know where that funtionality went?

Rotating a part in an exploded assembly.
Does anyone know where that functionality went?

Thanks in advance.

(For Your Information)

I submitted this question to PTC techincal support. The lady returned my call to tell me that past releases did not have that functionality.

I must have been mistaken. Maybe I was just wishing I could rotate an object in an exploded assembly. However, I did submit a Product Enhancement Request to provide that functionality.

So sorry for the mistake (my bad).

SrG.

I did not think it was possible to rotate parts in exploded views, thanks for confirming that. Your best bet is to use an assembly family table with the door rotation as a variable. That way you can have instance models & drawing views with the the door open or closed.

The wierdest thing though, is that sometimes when you choose the default explode, parts are rotated out of position.

Yes, I have seen that. Seems to make no sense, huh?
