Exploded Draft view help 1

Hey everyone,

I'm having a bit of trouble with Solid Edge (v20). I can't work out how (or if it's possible) to create a draft view of an exploded assembly. I'm using the explode-render-animate command to explode it, but clicking return at the end of the process reverts the assembly to normal. And obviously, if I save in the middle of the exploding, when I create a draft view of it it shows it unexploded. I really need to show how the screws fit and the part is put together, but it needs to be in draft format, not rendered. Any ideas, or know if this is possible? Thanks

When you save your file after you explode, it puts a new configuration name in the list - explode,tdb (tdb will be your initials) Now when placing a view in draft, iso view for example, once placed, right click and change "Configuration or PMI Model View" to your explode config. Once this is done, choose OK and the update draft view.

You can also save named config in the exploded view so don't over wright the default

Learn how to use configurations as cadman says. You can even create different configurations for the same explode in different orientations.

Be carefull though. Explosions are high maintenance. If a base part in the assy is changed, the explosion can fail in a way that's difficult to edit.

I've had interns waste 100's of man hours trying to keep exploded views up to date because the Project Manager insisted on making assembly instructions using exploded views before the design was finalized.

Where possible I suggest configurations with parts just hidden, rather than explosions, these update more robustly.

Looks like I'll have to get a bit of practice in on configurations then, thanks.
For this particular assembly, it's completed and won't be modified, but thanks for the tips, I'll keep these in mind when I'm working on something more complex.

also don't waste time with the explosion lines in the assembly. The draft ignores them. you will have to recreate them with draw in view in the draft.

HDS? While I've never played around with them much the 'explosion lines' come through just fine in draft. You need to set the drawing view properties to show "flowlines" on the Annotation tab. Or am I misunderstanding?

When in ERA you have to save the explode as a view config,
otherewise it will not be available in draft.
Flow lines can be shown as Kenat describes.

They don't always look like I want. Sometimes they are off center or don't have the right jogs. Changing how they look in the assembly does not change how they look in the draft view.
