I was wondering if it was possible to export a table-based BOM to excel. I use a lot of BOM's and in version 2003 I could export the BOM to excel to use it for part-lists. I was wondering if it was possible without an excel-based BOM.

Yes,
Select the BOM in the drawing, then "save as". Select the file type *.txt or *.csv. Excel can import either of these.

In SW04, you have the option of moving away from Excel-based BOMs, but I have yet to try exporting this data out of SW.

Anyone else try it?

With the new BOM format in SW2004 you do not have the "SAVE AS" or "SAVE" options and we have been struggling with SW on how to export a BOM and the only options we have been given have been to print out the BOM from the assembly drawings (or do a partial screen capture) which makes un-editable image files to paste into a Word document (or something like that). Not looking very friendly.

Also, we have issues that you can change the description or text of a part and the new BOM thinks it's a new part and shifts it to the bottom of the BOM... ::sigh:: We're not the happiest of users with the new BOM.

We have some assembly drawings that are several sheets and each partial assembly view has it's partial BOM on it and we'd like to compile an exported BOM for purchasing to work from and really can't find an easy out....

With new Functionality in SW, you have to give it some time to get better. Like a fine wine.

As for saving a BOM CMcF is correct.
Select the BOM in the drawing, then do a File "save as". Select the file type *.txt or *.csv. Excel can import either of these.

Hmm, Are u all working in 2004 ?? I've tried to save it but it doesn't seem to work. If I select the BOM-table in the feature-manager and then FILE -> Save As... I can only save the whole drawing. Am I making a mistake???

Grtz, Bouke...

No this works from SW01+ through SW04. I was pretty sure it workeed for all versions, but just to be sure I just tested it and it does. Just Pick it with your left mouse button (LMB). You will see 4 little green squares at each corner of the BOM (That lets you know you have it picked) Then do a files save as. If your pick anywhere else you will not be able to save BOM, only the drawing.

I think I know what's going wrong. I've tried to do "FILE --> Save As" But I have to do "right-mouse-click on the BOM --> Save As template --> Save as txt-file" But it works now!!

Btw If I select my bom-table I dont get 4 green Squares, But I get A large Magenta-colored Border around ;)
