Exporting Data

Can I export AutoCAD data, let's say a Door Schedule, into another program (Word, Excel, etc.) so I can edit the data in that program?

Yes you can, but the method depends on how the information is stored in AutoCAD. If you have blocks with attributes (easy with express tools). Just lines of text (possible, but may need a little tweaking). Let us know what you have got to begin with.

No blocks w /attributes...I wish. It's lines and text.

The lines and/or text must be "selectable", ie on a special layer. I guess even if they are not you can manually select them when the macto runs. What information do you want to extract? Please be specific and don't leave anything out.

You can just open the text editor and copy and paste from there. Alignments will be a little off, but the data will be fully editable in Word or Excel.

When I copy and paste, it retains the AutoCAD data and when you try to edit it in Word or Excel, it opens AutoCAD to edit the text.

ETEXT.lsp doesn't work either.

That's becasue you are trying to copy and paste the text object.

Double click on the text object(or select text object and type _ddedit), either of which opens the text editor. You have to select the actual letters out of the text editor with the mouse, like you do in Word. Copy them. Open a blank word/excel file, paste. The actual letters will be there, I promise!
