Hi,

I want to mesh my parts in CATIA V5 R20 and export them for use in other CFD software. Currently I can only save the meshed files as .CATAnalysis files. I have found forum posts suggesting that it is possible to export the meshs as .dat or .bdf files, but am unable to do this. Has this option been taken out of the software in V5 R20?

I am using the Advanced meshing tools and generative structural analysis workbenches to generate the mesh and put the surfaces into groups. I would like to export the node and group data for manipulation and for importation to other software.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm trying to avoid exporting the geometry from CATIA and using other meshing software for this.

Hi

How did you solve the problem?

And which CFD software are you using?

I managed to export the mesh using the export toolbar, which was hidden from view. This allows you to export the node co-ordinates and numbers as a .dat file.

I also want to export the noodes on defined surfaces so i am looking into other ways to do this. We have a sophisticated Abuqus model and so i am in the process of purchasing the license for the catia to abusus geometry converter. we can't do this in abuqus for catia as that has solvers with less fiunctionality.

I will let you know my final solution. It might involve ICEM or meshing directly in abuqus. Althought the Abuqus meshing capability on initial investigation does not appear powerful enough for my needs.
