What is the difference between exporting "surfaces" and exporting "Shells & solids" when exporting a STEP file from Pro/E Wildfire?

Thanks,
Jeff

Surfaces do not contain the solid geometry, they are only the 'skin' of your model. Shells and Solids will be the solid model.
Why the question?
Are you noticing a difference in file size? You should be!
What is the receiving system doing with the files? That will help you determine which method to use for the export.

The STEP files are being imported into Unigraphics NX and I was told I should export the files as "surfaces" instead of "shells and solids" to get a cleaner translation.

But based on your description, it sounds like I will just get less data (less details) translated which may appear cleaner but only because internal details may be missing.

Is that correct?

Thanks,
Jeff

Yes, that is correct.
You can also try a SaveAs to Parasolid format.

The assembly structure/naming is also required, I don't believe Parasolid will maintain that.
