I know how to display an expression in a note as a decimal using the following format:

<Xm.n@expression>

Is there a way to display the expression in the note as a fraction?

There's nothing which will automatically 'convert' the display of a decimal number into a fractional format, you'll have to do that yourself inside the Expression system and then format the text string using the computed numerator and denominator. Now once you've got the values for the numerator and denominator, depending on how you wish the fraction to appear, there are text control characters which will help you format the final note object. Basically there are 3 different fractional formats supported in NX, as shown below:

The format of the notes for each type of fraction is as follows:

Full Size = 2<V5!8>

2/3 Size = 2<R5!8>

3/4 Size = 2<Q5!8>

Anyway, that should get you what you're looking for.

will this ultimatly be shown as a dimension on a drawing ?

It will be shown on a drawing, but inside of a note. I need it to automatically update the value inside of the note so I won't have to edit the note every time I change the value. It works in decimal form, but I can't get it to display as a fraction.

I've already provided the only practical solution and while it does require you to convert inside the Expression system the decimal value to an appropriate numerator and denominator, once you have these values you simple insert links to those expressions in the suitable fractional note examples above and you'll have an associative note which will update when the original floating-point expression updates.
