Extended Stem Ball Valves 1

I originally posted this 2 years ago, but never found any manufacturers that offer this type of ball valve without it being a custom build. I'm hoping that something has changed in two years, so here goes.

I am trying to find manufacturers of a bronze body ball valve (nothing fancy; 300 psig WOG HVAC service) that offer extended stems AND an extended body around the stem, so that I can seal my insulation to the body just below the handle. Something like a cryogenic valve, but I only need something that will accommodate about 2 inches of insulation. Some manufacturers offer extended stems, but not an extended body.

When using standard ball valves in chilled water service, if they need to be operated with any frequency, it is almost impossible to maintain a vapor barrier around the stem region.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Take a look at the Worcester 94. It has an extended bonnet with a nice flange at the top. It's a high-quality valve and would last a squazillion years in HVAC utility service.

It is available as a 3-piece valve. Normal metallurgy is steel or stainless, but if you need solder ends you can get those made of Brass. That's not in the book, but the onlt "special" about doing it would be writing up a special BOM. All the pieces exist.

300PSIg is quite high a pressure but we used some other technique to overcome this problem upto 10 barg pressures. This doesn't require extended stem but you can use a coupler kind of thing between the stem and the handle(doesn't work with gear type drives). The coupler will have a rectangular notch in the bottom where it gets connected to the spindle and handle is attached to it at the top. We used this arrangement upto 100mm length.

I just returned from the AHR expo in Orlando, and I finally found the valve that I've been looking for. It's made by RUB Valves (Italy). The problem is that they do not make the valve in NPT thread!

Hopefully, they will decide to market this valve in the US. I've encouraged them to do so, since there does not appear to be anything like it offered by other valve manufacturers. For those of you outside the US, it is the model s.26 and s.96 (
