Hi all.

We are having a little snag with idw's. When trying to dimension parts with rounded edges, say a bent plate in cross-section, the extension lines touch the part at the start of the radius. It looks horrendous without the gap, which we would get with, hmm, AUTOCAD!!!!

If my frustration is showing, please forgive me, between this and Autodesk Fault (sorry - Vault), it's been a tough month.

By the way, when in Vault you check the "Don't get local copy" box, shouldn't it say "Don't OVERWRITE local copy"?
That's precisely what the folks at Autodesk explain to you, so what gives?

Which version are you running. They made some MAJOR changes in R9 over R8.

I can't remember R8.

R9, just select dimension, RMB, and "edit dimension style". Make a new style so you don't overwrite all other dimension properties too. You can set all the properies (extension distance, arrowheads, text direction etc) you could want in this dialog box....but I'm guessing you're not running R9

Actually, we are running R9.

Doing what you suggest gives us too large a gap at the opposite extension line, i.e. the one extending from a square edge.

We have had to suppress the line near the radius part, and sketch a proper one in, etc.

Acad solved this a decade ago, you'd think Autodesk could transfer some of that functionality...
