External FBE coating

Dear All,
I have one query regarding FBE external coating. Line is production UG pipe line and Max. design temp is 110 deg C. Which FBE is suitable whether single layer FBE or Dual Layer FBE?? Please suggest. I need to choose one option out of these two.

There are single layer coatings that can withstand that temperature. The dual layer coatings usually are for added functionality like:

• Anti-slip (higher friction surface)
• Ultraviolet radiation resistance (weathering)
• Elevated temperature resistance
• Improved damage resistance during construction

Even better - refer to ISO 21809-2 and request the coating manufacturer's qualification test report demonstrating achievement of the required properties for 110 deg C. Ecopetrol from Colombia have a couple of nice papers on qualification testing of FBE for 150 deg C: NACE Corrosion 2012, Papers 2012-1535 and 2012-1674.

We could also go down the debating road of "do we work with pipeline design temperature, or pipeline maximum operating temperature" which could buy you a few more candidates.

Just read SP0394 - good to see that they have caught up with ISO at last (not surprising as the same players were behind the two standards). So , you can also ask for the Product Quality Certificate.
