Extracting Poisson's Ratio

I am interested in extracting the overall Poisson's ratio of an object. The object is made of different materials with different properties. What I've been doing is a uniaxial tension test and using field output for the U variable to determine the change in length for each dimension, but so far this technique has not worked. Any suggestions on a better way?
