Extremely Disappointed with new Version

I downloaded the new version of Draftsight and like many software companies they have put in all sorts of controls that have made it nearly unusable. For instance:

1) I have been using the keystroke "E" for erase for 32 years, since Autocad ver 2.3 in 1983 - In their infinite wisdom, it no longer functions, even though it is in the alias XML file. E opens some other command. Now the only way I can use an alias is to type "DEL" WTF? 32 years of muscle memory down the rathole.

2) Also for many years I have been inserting my drawing border templates onto sketches to turn them into drawings, and it used to remember where the folder for the templates was - no longer. Now it only defaults to the DraftSite embedded folder, and I have to navigate through a dozen or so mouse clicks to get back to my original folder. Great job turning a single mouse click into 12. [evil]

3) Every drawing opens with the Draftsight home page instead of the Properties toolbar. Yet another setup set you have to perform every time you open a drawing, instead of it remembering the defaults.

I'm sure I'll find a few more, I only upgraded two days ago.

The last half dozen versions worked fine, why fix it if it ain't broke?

Oh Yeah, one more default that the last version used to remember but the new one doesn't - Printer configurations. Every single time you want to print a drawing it defaults back to manual setup instead of remembering the printer configuration. Can't it save it with the drawing????

I have an older version, so I don't know if this will help, but have you tried customizing the UI?
Mine is located here: User\(user name)\AppData\Roaming\DraftSight\(version)\UI\English\application.xml
About half way down there is a shortcut keys section, perhaps if you change the accelerator to "E" it will give you the results you're looking for. Of course you would have to load this UI.

#2 Maybe you could place your templates in the DraftSight folder.

As to #3, on my version, I can right click on the menu line and uncheck Home and make sure that Properties is checked.

Hey Spiraboats !

Sorry to hear about your troubles. Are you using the pro version ?

Also, have you tried calling the draftsight people for support ?

I suspect you might need to check your paths under options on your toolbar. I did that with mine and it is starting to work better in the pro version. As felix said you must use the realoadaliases command or set your paths to load and import the correct alias file.

please keep us posted on your success that I am sure you will find if you keep at it and get in touch with the draftsight people.

Good luck,

Drafto

No, not using the pro version and it's highly unlikely I'd pay for this turd. Yes I did try to reset the aliases and UIs, a piece of cake for the 2012 one but no joy with the new 2015 version, it still doesn't work.

Oh another issue and I'm having that's extremely frustrating is that the object snap is ultra-sensitive. The cursor will snap to the perpendicular, or intersection or whatever, but when you push the mouse button, it never stays either shore or long. Again, something I've been used to doing decades now doesn't work. Does anyone else have this issue with the new version? It makes it nearly unusable. About half the lines I draw have to be extended or trimmed later. Frustrating!

Guess I'll shop for another CAD program. Any suggestions for a better working equivalent. I'm willing to pay for one that's more functional than this one.

I started searching for a replacement for a very outdated Autocad LT97 software, tried a 2010 version of Autocad (forget which version) and within a week it crashed with the same exact error I had seen with the older software. Since I didn't want to spend money on something that had not been fixed in 13 years I tried Draftsight, looked great at first, but it crashed way more often than Autocad (not to mention other issues). I then tried BricsCAD and liked it. I haven't used it enough yet to say its perfect for me, but so far no problems. I don't use CAD all that much but I hate buggy software.
