I have a shape I need to extrude. The problem is that I need it to taper as it extrudes. For instance, picture a rectangular piece of tubing with very round corners, that is 2.0" x 1.45" on one end, I need to extrude this, about 6" in length, making both dimensions grow to 2.5" x 1.95" on the other end, so a half inch taper on each dimension.

How do I do a taper extrude like this? I'm using SW2004.

You could use draft, but that does not give the dimensions required as easily as Lofting from sketch to sketch. Especially if the draft angles are not symmetrical

CBL is right

A draft will get you really, really close but will not be exact because you are not using the dimensions intended by the design (it's that "design intent" thing). Imagine what the part would do if the length had to change.

With a loft you can change the length with a simple edit of the offset plane and the end dimensions would not change.

Design intent is key - I guess I was just paying more attention to the 1/2" taper than the dimensions at the 2 ends.

So many ways to do things, so little time!

I think it was 04 that had a great tutorial of a bottle that was created by two profiles and a guide curve with the loft feature.

Fill what's empty. Empty what's full. And scratch where it itches.
