I need to turn this feature off, its ruining my life. Hair is falling out, tires are wearing unevenly, I think a piece of the sky just fell. I've really had all I can take, thank you Siemens/UGS/PLM/NX, but this is Not how things work in my office.

Tried a workaround, in customer defaults, modeling, selection preferences, extrude, curves rule = face edges. But the extrude dialog still comes up with single curve, since it was last used.

Need another idea.

uncheck sketch on planar faces

It is not checked. Loooked at the mouse-over help, can't decipher any meaning from it:

"This option determines whether or not the selected planar face is used as the sketch plane for a section when the selection intent type is set to 'Any'."

Selected when? Meaning pre-selected from some prior step when the sketcher begins to initialize? That would be too late.

OK, the Customer Default option still works, but there is no longer an 'Any' option in Selection Intent but if you leave it set to 'Infer Curves' then it will behave as if it were 'Any'. Development will update the user documentation so that the reference to 'Any' will be replaced with the correct reference to 'Infer Curves'

If I understand correctly, this still does not apply when using 'single curve' selection filter? I see that it makes infer curves pick face edges instead of going into a sketch, which is a step in the right direction.

The problem is that when viewing an area up close and picking individual edges it may not be possible to see if you have selected an edge curve or a face. Setting the selection filter to Edge Curves each time is not efficient, and just as easily forgotten.

Sketching is a very delibarate process, it shouldn't be so easy to 'fall into' the sketcher.

Of course, most other systems out there you have no choice since sketching is often the ONLY option. At least with NX we give you multiple options as long as you remember how to properly use them. We have implemented dialog memory so that if you used Face Edges last time, it will default to Face Edges the next time. I'm not sure what more we can possibly do except to force users to explicitly state each that they want to sketch instead of selecting edges, which would only add additional keystrokes to the workflow, something for which complaints are always made when it we have had to do that. So we're damned if we do and we're damned if we don't.

Yes, thats exactly what I'm trying to achieve! As I said, sketching is a delibarate process anyway, involving many keystrokes and a concentrated effort. It doesent make sense that you find yourself in that mode so easily. I come from a system that requires you to sketch everything (literally), and its not fair to make that comparison here due to drastically different implementation.

I primarily use extrude with single edges, and frequently click a face unintentionally. There is extra penalty for doing that (as opposed to accidentally picking a wrong edge) since the sketcher takes time to open and several keystrokes to cancel. The wait is longer when working with an assembly that is already bogging the system. With all the selection options, I still can't find a way to consistently avoid this. I NEVER pick a face for the purpose of making a sketch (I do use sketches, just not in this way), so its painful to ALWAYS have the system pushing me that direction.

I'm trying to select extrude geometry, not create. Your processes are intermixed.
