Extrude "from-to" plane

If I want to extrude sketch from one plane (face) to another, must that sketch be between that 2 planes ?

No it does not need to exist between both planes (Faces), but you must have the sketch on at least one of them. When you Boss - Extrude (or Cut) it, just use "Up to Surface". This works for both faces and planes.
