ExxonMobil, estimates CCS could be a $2 trillion market by 2040.
And lots of engineers can work on those projects.
As I always say, I dont care how high the price of oil is. If it keeps me working, I can pay that price.

To me, this is one of the markets that COULD develop eventually. But, only if we're really serious about the whole "carbon trading" concept. That concept has real flaws, certainly. But, if companies are taxed heavily on their carbon output then they'll spend heavily on carbon credits that results from thing like this.

I'm not completely sold on the idea. But, I think it makes plenty of sense for companies like Exxon to investigate the technology and develop it a bit.

Sooooo the article says, "If the landmark project were to be built, ExxonMobil estimates that by 2030 the initial phase of the carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) project could capture 50 million metric tons/year (mmty) of carbon dioxide (CO2) from the mega refineries, chemical and manufacturing facilities along the Houston Ship Channel (HSC)."

A quick Google search shows me that global annual CO2 output for fossil fuels has been hovering around 35 billion metric tons/year.

So invest $100B to sequester a maximum of 0.143% of the annual CO2 output? There is no way this would be a wise investment, but it would sure make people feel good about themselves, as long as they ignore all the truly productive things they could have used that $100B for. Stupid investments like this are why China is going to win the energy war. Westinghouse's incompetence already made them the default leader in nuclear..

Probably somebody is missing a few 0's somewhere. In Spain a billion is a trillion elsewhere. A billion is "1.000 million" where the decimal is a comma elsewhere,

it used to be (in the UK world) that a billion was 10^12 (a million million, as a million is a thousand thousand) ... sounds like this current Spanish practice too.
it's the US practice that a billion is 10^9 (a thousand million).

Can someone explain the logic for European's using a decimal for the thousands divider when it was already in common usage as the "decimal point" ?

What do Europeans call the comma that is pressed into service as a "decimal point" ?

In ES it is "la coma". The period, o "el punto", means multiply 4 . 2 = 8

The comma is used extensively and not just in EU.
Where they drive on the left side of the road uses "." except US and some African countries.
Canada is messed up, probably because of Quebec. Peru has much Japanese influence.
In Arabic numeric script a "." = zero and a "0" = 5
In Hebrew a "-" = 0 i think
In Germany the "bottom line" total is at the top of the page.

Yeah. I just thought I'd wind up the Canadians a little. We'll all be moving up north soon enough, Taking over Greenland... Denmark should have sold it to Trump when they had the chance. Canada will really be messed up then.
