I am looking into possibly producing a mass amount of f436 hardened washers for a job coming up..6" plate washers with a 4" ID hole. From everything I can find they don't give me the yield strength of f436, mainly because this material is under compression, but I'm trying to see if I can find a steel that has comparable characteristics so I can cut these out on the plas table. I know this is a hardened steel but does anyone know of a steel grade I could use in place of the f436 or if I can simply order a hardened plate and cut from it? At the same time I'm not even sure if that is legal per code and what measures I would have to take to be able to do this. Any input would help at this time while I continue my research.

You can order a hardenable steel, fabricate the washer, and then heat treat them (washers over 1 1⁄2 in. may be either through hardened or carburized at the option of the manufacturer according to ASTM F436). There are any number of steel grades that can be used, depending on thickness, quantity, manufacturing method, etc. SAE grades like 1045, 1055, 4130, and 4140 are some possibilities.

yield strength is important to prevent the bolt head etc from "embedding" in the material
