I had a (2') piece of 6" x .50" wall C-22 pipe fabricated with ASME Partial Data Reports. The pipe has a "Part" Tag and stamping on one end. We cut the pipe in to (2) 12" pieces to use on (2) different vessels for this project. We transferred the markings per our QC Manual. Our AI is saying we can't split a Part into (2) pieces and transfer the markings. He is rejecting it. I've talked to several people and they all agree that we can indeed do this. Is there any Interpretations out there or clarification of this issue either way? Thanks in advance for the help.

I have never encountered this, but first thing that comes to mind is the serial #. You would have two different pieces with the same serial #.

tgregg, was this pipe not to a recognized standard? Why made as a Part?

Regards,

Mike

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

They had to make it because there was not any C-22 pipe to be found. MACH Ind. from Houston fabricated it.

I wonder who are "several people" and if they may provide the reference to your AI.
