Fake dimensions 2

I am adding a note to a feature. The note involves two parallel surfaces so I used a horizontal dimension. Then I edited the number to input the text I need (erased the dimension value and typed in my text). However, this creates a "fake dimension" which is not a good idea. Any thoughts about how to use the horizontal dimension (getting leader lines and arrows automatically) to add a note without making it fake? I could draw them in but UG is supposed to make life easier, right? Thanks.

One company I have worked for in the past ran their UG drawings thru a verification process, that would "flag" faked dimensions, and not allow the drawing to be released. Because of that, I've gone to putting in the dimension as reference, with the note as appended text. They get a dimension that they really don't need, but it keeps the drawing 'legal'.

If your note doesn't involve any dimensional data, just geometric reference to parallel, what is the problem with doing it the way you are. (Unless you have a program like Dave did.) If your 2 surfaces move, you would still have the note and it would be attached to them. Just bcause you have a 'fake dimension' doesn't make the rest of the drafting entity unassociated to the original geometry.

Thanks for the input. We do have a check program that fails because of this fake dimension. I suppose I could try to fight that battle, saying it doesn't matter in this case. Again, thanks for the input.

Here is a roundabout method that might help you out and is pretty simple.

Use the Annotation preferences to set the text size of your dimension to .0001 and the dimension to not display decimals.

Create your Fake Dim as an annotation and place it with the associative offset character option and pick the dimension as the reference. A X=0 Y=0 offset to the middle of the reference dimension should be good.

IF you do this you can move the real dimension with the edit origin tool and the fake text will follow it.

Yes, you can still create fake dimensions.
Simply Edit -> Text. A warning box will appear, and you will have to accept it and click again in your annotation window to continue typing your new text.

if i select the thread circle, it offers diameter symbol instead of "M"
does UG has a normal option for this?

In NX: Insert->Feature Parameters find your thread, then select the view you want to put it in.
