I work in a machine shop where there is a need to work on top of equipment (machines) at a height over five feet high. Sometimes to replace cabinet AC chillers or motors on top of machines. What kind of Fall protection is available or used in the industry to comply with OSHA. The work can not be performed using a ladder or work platform, the person needs to be right on the equipment to get at connections / bolts wiring etc.

Generally, scaffolding would need to be built up, with guardrails removed at the access to the point-of-work. This can get highly customized as planking that spans across the machine to scaffold towers on either side can get pretty long on larger machines.

It is better to have enough ideas for some of them to be wrong, than to be always right by having no ideas at all.
