I have a scroll saw with a Fasco soft-start motor on it. It is a 60Cycle 1/6 hp motor with a 12.5 MFD370VAC Capacitor. It is 2.0 amp 1650 rpm Type 88B1. The motor controller has gone bad and I need to buy a new one or an equivalent. Can anyone out there steer me in the right direction?

I contacted Fasco and they said I should contact the OEM folks. Unfortunately they are out of business. Any other ideas? I'm a bit desperate.

Mike, I have been a FASCO motor dealer for over 15 years and do not recall ever seeing a speed control in their literature. Is a picture of the speed control available? There are several good single phase speed controls out there. Problem is they normally do not maintain motor speed well on a variable load as they are built to be used on fans.

I have to believe the problem is the potentiometer which would appear to be a simple fix. How would I determine the range of the potentiometer?

If it's a pot then it will have a value and part number printed on it. Are you sure it's a pot and not an encoder? That might be harder to track down in one-off quntities.
