I have a company that turns a 115V dc motor off and on while reading the feedback from a micro0pulse sensor (balluff.) They calculate the position and using a brake on the motor they try to sto0p this wo within .005". ROFL, I know. They have to slow the system down just to get it within .025 to .015 depending on up or down motion. I need to locate an inexpensive unit that I can blow a position value to via rs232. Should be closed loop of some type. Using a Fx2N plc as the main machine controller. The load is 100lbs, must move 5"/second and the unit should have 6 to 8 inches of travel. Models should be available for u0p to 300 lbs. )Power source is 220vac single phase 3wire. Will also need a rotary setup to talk on the same netowrk, so 232 to 422 or 485 should be looked at. The rotary unit only has a 20lb reduced load and will not need to be too beefy.

I'd like a single controller card for both axis so I don't have to convert the 232.

I have several solutions but I am used to very robust powerful machines in which money was not an issue. On these machines, a product line, it has become a very important issue. I do not know what is available on such a low price tag.

Is it a one off or can you take the cost to develop custom units?

They will be making over 100 units per year.
