Hi, I'm sort of new to the world of valves. I am looking for a 3-way, normally closed, 3/8" or 1/2" NPT solenoid valve that has a high flow rate (high orifice diameter / Cv) as well as a fast response time, that can handle up to 150 psi. I am trying to move a pneumatic cylinder as quickly as possible to retract a probe from inside a plasma. I need as high a flow rate as possible to quickly increase the pressure in the cylinder to move the piston. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to look, or what kind of upper range specs I can expect to find? Thanks a lot.

Look at Versa first. ASCO is among the most common and Skinner is also popular.

I trust you have looked at ASCO and Parker-Skinner.

If you want to get a LOT of air moved, you can put a VERSA spool valve in it. The versa valve uses a small solenoid to activate a spool valve. The ports are HUGE. You might even need to increase the connections size on your pneu cylinder to keep up with the available flow from the spool valve.

Hi Jack,

I am recently using a lot of AMOT 4057-CP 3-way valves. My client has been using them and really like them.

The 4057 allows you to use less pressure on the control signal side (e.g. 3-15 psi), and larger pressures on the activation side of the relay (up to 120 psi).

Also, instead of a 3 way valve. Would two 2-way valves be possible. You will probably be able to get bigger 2-ways than 3 ways I would think (not positive).
