My CAD users get the following error when opening certain autocad drawings:

FATAL ERROR: Unhandled Access Violation Reading 0x260a83ch Exception at 3601e78ch

When this happens the drawing does not load at all. It only happens for a handfull of drawings though, most drawings actually load like they're supposed to. For some reason I can see the preview properly when opening. We use both R14 and 2002 Here are some things I've tried.

1. Searched the autodesk autocad knowledge base. Came up with zilch.

2. Performed a recover on the file. The recovered file comes up with the same error.

3. Inserted the drawing as a block. If I have explode checked I get a new error:

FATAL ERROR: Unhandled Access Violation Reading 0x2348e7c Exception at 3601e78ch

It then automatically will ask to save a recovered version of the file, which once again gives an error. If I insert it and don't explode it, I can get the file open. But I need it exploded.

Just as a check, insert it and then try an audit.

Okay, try a save as R13 or R12 if you can from your R14.

Excellent, this seemed to work!

I opened it in 2002 (it's a 2002 version file), saved it down to 14. Then I opened it in 14 and saved down to 12 and did an explode. I then opened it in 2002 again and saved it as a 2002 file. This seemed to weed out those errors I kept receiving.

I never even thought of saving it below 14. This problem has been plaguing us off and on for almost 2 months now. Thank you so much for your help, I appreciate it.
