Hi everyone, I have worked in mechanical/structural engineering for 40 years and have used the FE codes Nastran, Ansys, Cosmos-M and ABAQUS. I now have my own consulting firm and recently purchased Lisa for my business. I am looking at a structure that has many different geometry and size beam elements and plates in it. The help in Lisa is very poor on how to handle multiple components and materials. Specifically how do you assign the moments of inertia, thickness and materials in the Materials lists to the proper elements? Thanks for any help you can give.

You may want to have a look at Mecway. It is a "fork" of Lisa and still in development. It has a forum and the developer is very active. It also supports the open source solver CalculiX (similar to ABAQUS) and we are working on a way for it to support the open source solver MYSTRAN (similar to NASTRAN).

Thanks very much for your reply. I will look into the other code, but I figured this out over the weekend. I still can't say I like it, but I now understand it.
