FEA- COSMOSWorks vs. ALGOR vs. ?? 1

I'm looking to buy an analysis program. The COSMOSWorks product seems to have advantages over others (ALGOR, etc.) that are not integrated into SolidWorks. Cost seems to be comparable. What results have you experienced users seen with these packages?

It will really depend on the type of analysis you will be doing. Each application has its limitations. I would highly suggest that you prepare several tests and let each company try to meet your requirements. Depending on what you are testing, you should make sure the samples include both solid and shell problems. You may also want to look into Cosmos/M, which gives you much more control over your anaysis compared to Cosmos/Works.

CAD compatibility is the last thing to consider when choosing FEA software. All FEA software is capable of importing and exporting geometry from neutral files (IGES, STEP, parasolid). I came to this conclusion after being part of a project benchmarking 4 different FEA packages, including COSMOS.

What really matters is accurate results. Everything else is just fluff. Choose the FEA package that can best handle your analysis needs (linear or nonlinear? plastics? thermal? fluid flow?)

Good and evil: wrap them up and disguise it as people.
