Hi

OK, here it goes: I need to predict the sound a vibrating body would emit if this is struck with another body. For example, a glass of water that is hit with a spoon. What I would like to obtain is the sound signal. Is there any FEA software capable of doing this?
Thank you!

The sound frequency will most probably be similar to the first natural frequency of the structure, which is easily modeled by FEM.

Hai,

Lnxman:

ANSYS can do it.But it is not economical as per my exeperience.

Boundary element techniques and statistical energy analysis techniques are compartiely better compared to FEM techniques.

Hence there are limited number of packages available in this regard.

Lms-sysnoise,comet,Auto-Sea are few softwares in this regard.

Sysnoise is a solver and post-processor.It doesn't have pre-processing capabilities.

In ANSYS, the displacement or velcoity distribution of the structure has to be obtained by the impact of the other object. Then the FE model along with velocity or displacement response can be imported to sysnoise and can be solved using advanced Boundary element techniques.
