FEA of Metalforming

Does anyone know what would be the best software to use to create a model of a Gas Pressure Weld, or of a consulting firm that would be able to create such a model. The model would need to adress both the variables affecting the temperature of the gas flame and thoes affecting the flow of the metal. Knowing the resulting microstructure and grain size would also be nice.

For those type of Metal Forming problems one needs a Non-Linear FEA code. Nastran has some software codes that can idealize your design. Our consulting company might be able to help you as well. David R. Dearth, P.E.

Why dont you try ADINA ???
Its a great code

Actually just about any FEA code with nonlinear capability will work. I suggested Nastran. The real point is that if one is really proficient in FEA analyzes then frankly ANY code should generate sufficient solutions for one to make an engineering judgment on whether or not to proceed with a paper design and fabricate a few prototypes for environmental and/or structural testing. The basic point is "know thy code". David R. Dearth, P.E.

Hi,
actually i also agree that any FEA code with nonlinear capability will satisfy the problem. But there are some FEA package that specialize in non linear problem, even highly non linear, like ABAQUS and ADINA. They solve such problems more reliable regarding time and accuracy.

cheers

Yes I agree.. ABAQUA and ADINA are the best choices.. if you have the budget.. David R. Dearth, P.E.

Hi,
sorry twice sending with the same posting. Just ignore the second.
If the price is the main consideration, then why not try the cheap one with non-linear capability also, like UNA for example, right?

cheers
