Hello guys !

Does anyone know if we can use a curve driven pattern as a feature for Feature Driven Pattern of components. I tried having a curve driven pattern for holes and then inserted a bolt in the first hole and am trying to pattern it using feature driven pattern, but it doesnt work.

Any input will be highly appreciated.

Thanks
regards

You can create a Spline on a part, and dimension the points on the Spline, then use Hole Wizard to place features at those points... then after inserting your first component, use Component Pattern to copy components along the path via an "exisitng feature pattern (Derived)."

Is this what you are looking for?

Sorry Madmango I wasnt specific enough. Here is what I did ...

I made a square plate with radius on the 4 corners, fairly big radius. Then I inserted an offset sketch on the face. Then I made one hole (actually I sketched a circle and then cut, wonder if a hole would work) which had its centre on the offset curve. Then I made a pattern of that cut (hole) on the curve using curve drivven pattern to have 12 holes along the curve.

Now in the assembly I inserted a bolt in this first hole. Tried to have a feature driven pattern of bolts using my curve driven pattern of holes as the feature to be used.

This doesnt work and says CANNOT PATTERN: COULD NOT LOCATE PATTERN LOCATION.

Hope this makes it clearer.

Thanks

Yes, it won't work unless you create your holes using the Hole Wizard.

Sounds like a bug, this should work. What version and service pack?

I have tried it on Solidworks 2004 SP3.0 and also on Solidworks 2005 SP 0.0

Thanks

I just tried and the hole wizard also doesnt work for this case.
