I am trying to determine whether i need to use web doubler plates for my moment fame connection. I have a two story, one bay frame, columns are W14x74 and beams are W24x76 with a total span length of 30' and average story height of 15'. Accordsing to the FEMA 350 equations for calculating panel zone strength, the required thickness is 1.13" which doesn't seem right to me. Am I doing something wrong? I'll try to list what I'm doing:

1. Mpr (beam) = 1100 ft-k
2. Vp = (2Mpr + Vg)/L' = 202k
3. Mc = Mpr + Vp*0.75db = 1420 ft-k
4. FEMA 350 Eq. 3-7: tPZ = 1.13"

Can anyone help?

Have you considered that the column may simply be too small? Besides the panel zone issue, you probably have a strong beam/weak column issue that could lead to a story sidesway collapse mechanism.
