Kindly advice regarding NFPA 14 statement that cancel class II stations and installing 1.5 inch reducer. My question is that what is the function of the reducer mentioned?

Class II hose stations are typically 1-1/2". Replacing Class II with a Class I hose station permits the use of the smaller 1-1/2" thread but requires a reducer from the mandated 2-1/2" thread required of a Class I.

Personally I've never installed a Class II hose station; the AHJ has always requested a Class I.

I believe Stookey has commented on Class II hoses being removed from the code someday as fewer and fewer buildings have trained personnel to handle fire hoses.

For 1 1/2 fire hose connection, that might be used by the fire dept

I've never been asked to provide a reducer. Don't most FD's use gated wye fittings on the 2½" hose valve anyway. The reducer would just slow down the time to get the gated wye hooked up and get set to attack the fire area.
