Fiber Optic Cable converter?

I'm designing a special case substation that needs communication with a control house across the street. I'm trying to avoid running 300+ yards of fiber underground or overground. I have communication between microwave towers at both sites. I was wondering, In general, what equipment or multiple pieces of equipment is needed at the microwave tower to convert the fiber signal and then pick it back up on the other end of the tower?

Would the link be for netowrk commuincations, or just a single device? Is it for TCP/IP, or other protocol?

If TCP/IP, you could get a pair of fiber to ehternet converters and use an unlicensed ethernet radio link (like a Motorola Canopy) between the facilites.

Any radio that accepts a direct fiber input (i.e. SONET) would likely be of a more carrier class graade and require licensing, and be somewhat expensive.

300 yds is supposedly doable for WiFi, particularly outdoors and with good antennas.
