Hi,
Is there any difference between Renaming and Save As in a NX part file structure ?
Thanks

As far as Renaming goes;
Where are you doing the renaming ? In Windows ?

I go at the location of the NX file......I pick up the file and select Rename.......

Only in so much as an OS rename won't take care of "interpart data".

We tend to recommend not using the OS rename.

Thanks both of you. A star for each post.

A nice thing about doing a Save As is that what the name of the file was before it was renamed shows up in the Part History so it can be tracked if it needs to be.

Also, rename will change the original name of the file to your new name.
Save As makes a copy of the original file and names it the new name.

If the part is in an assembly and the assembly is loaded in memory when you do either operation, the assembly updates to the new name. The same holds true if the part is shown on a drawing and the drawing is loaded.

If you are running TeamCenter or another PDM system, the options may be a little different than running NX in native mode.

The worst thing you can do is do the Rename or Save As in the OS.

Yup don't rename in Windows. I renamed in Windows and messed up a huge manufacturing part I had worked on and saved it when opened. Lost all of the reference geometry and toolpaths. Luckily I use dropbox for all of my work files and was able to retrieve the last saved update from a few minutes before.
