Does anyone here have to deal with file replication? We will soon have 4 sites within a 60 mile radius that need to access the same Solidworks files. Currently the remote sites access files from a server at another site but it's way too slow.

I know some high end PDMs have this function built but what about something like PDM/Works? What options are there with no PDM?

I think PDMworks can handle this but to make sure contact your VAR. They can tell you for sure.

Nothing that I know of, other than manaully figuring it out every time someone has to move files. You would have hire someone just for that type of a job to keep up.

Currently I do some manual replication between two sites, where the remote site has very little activity, mostly for users to view files.

Now our company has decided to split the R&D dept between several locations and this creates a problem for us to work on the same files at the same time. Replication must be real-time and will most likely have to be handled by some program that monitors all files. Just wondering if anyone has run across this.

How's the new job Scott?

It's going very well! I'm extremely happy here. I say that now because, I just got back from a weeks vacation [rofl]. I like it, I can't complain since I'm at home working [2thumbsup] Plus I can pay my bills once again [bigcheeks]

Hope things are going well for you there still!

Well, our company is doing some unpleasant reorganization that has resulted in my having to drive much farther to work. Also the future seems uncertain as they don't to tell anyone what's going til it's to late, hence this problem I have replicating files.

If only I had other options, but alas Memphis is not exactly a Solidworks hotspot.

Sorry to hear that Jason! Will if things get worse for you... you might check with your VAR or any of the local VAR's in your area or surrounding area and see if they have anyone that might have an opening or know of something that might help you out. I did that for 10 months till one of the VAR's hired me [lol].

I hope everything works out for you. If you need anything don't hesitate to let me know. You tried helping me when I was out of a job last year.

As for the problem your dealing with now I think a PDM is going to be your best bet. I would check with your VAR to confirm that PDMworks will work but I don't see why it wouldn't.
