Looking for fill height tables for plain steel pipe. Pipe will be used as a casing.

Strength of pipe with respect to fill height is a function of the backfill surrounding the pipe and the trench soil arching action.

Another useful point on backfilling any rigid pipe (such as steel) is that the amount of fill is also proportional to the pipe diameter. i.e much more fill can generally be loaded with respect to backfill material on a 200mm dia pipe than a 1.0metre dia pipe without deformation.

steel is generally not analyzed as a "rigid" pipe. strength is related to the thickness of the pipe wall and grade of steel used. For casing, thickness is generally increased to provide additional protection for the carrier pipe and to allow greater jacking force (assuming this is a jacked casing). Backfill is not an issue with jacking as there is no trench to backfill. Soil type is more important and ability of the contractor to install the pipe without creating voids.
