Hi all,

I have a project where I need to fill up about 60m3 of existing humus tank as per hatched area in attached file (dims in mm). The new working height of the tank will be only 1300mm and store water. The new formation level would be built on top of hatched area and probably in the form of reinforced slab.

Is there any cheaper/greener alternative to a foamed concrete? Maybe someone had a similar project in the past?

Thank you in advance,
Jed

does it need to be solid?

Could you fill up single use plastic bottles with sand and dump them in??

Or shredded / crushed glass bottles and then seal it at the top?

Mix a little cement with the sand (and bottles) to carry the load from above.

Flowable Fill. Can be made from low quality products, including fly ash (waste product from coal combustion).

Nice thing about flowable fill... if you had asked a different question: "What is the best material for this application?", my answer would be the same, flowable fill.

100% agree with SlideRuleEra. Flowable fill with concrete cap on top. Flowable fill provides support and doesn't need to be compacted like backfill soil.

And flowable fill can be removed (dug out) in the future. Do you have a time capsule to bury?
