Hello All,

I have few questions regarding Fillet Weld Procedure Qualification.
Per Figure QW-462.4(d), the Max. fillet size shall be equal to T - which is the Pipe wall thickness.

1. Does the "Max. fillet size" refer to the weld leg or throat?

2. In order to qualify the procedure, are the only requirement to be meet are those shown in QW-183?

3. In case that the actual fillet size (in the actual welded test coupon) is larger than T, does a new Test Coupon and Certification of the welding procedure is needed?

Thanks,

Max fillet size is weld leg.
Requirement is four macros per QW-451.3
Not sure what you are saying in the last statement, but use good engineering judgement, as tolerances are not addressed in the Code, Max leg is T. Note MAX...so keep it under T.

Note that this is only good for non pressure welds.

Hi david339933,

Example: assume T=6mm, Figure QW-462.4(d) Requires Fillet Leg=T => Leg=6mm.
Beside that the actual weld leg size which seen in the macro is 7mm, all the requirements of QW-183 are meet.
Shall I repeat the whole process again because of weld size or, since the QW-183 req. are meet I can qualify the PQR?

What do you mean by: "that this is only good for non pressure welds."?

If you are welding pressure fillet welds, you have to qualify on a groove weld coupon. See QW-202.2(c)
