Filter Times between 20 micron and 40 micron 2

Hello,

If I want to use one system to filter the same oil for 1 system to 20 micron (1000L) and another system to 40 microns (5000L). Would it only make sense to filter both systems to 20 microns or will the 20 micron filter be much, much slower at filling the system?

I want to simplify the system but i don't want it to take forever to filter the 5000L.

Is it reaswonable???

Oddly enough, that's a very loaded question. I assume you'd rather not keep two different types of filters on-hand, or have two different dedicated filtering systems. I'd go with whatever is cheapest. When you're dealing with size ranges of 20 and 40 micron, these filters are designed to take out rather large particles. The pores on these are very open, so open, in fact, that depending on the filter type, these filters may actually be identical. I say this as a former filter design engineer. My previous company marketed the same filter at two different ratings, 20 and 40. It's an especially easy sell if they're "nominally" rated, which I suspect. Also, if you're using string-wound filers... all bets are off. I recommend something more robust. What type of filters are you considering?

I agree with Aaron. Both filters are not absolute filters and the micron rating is only nominal. If they are spun wound, you may probably have one more layer as a difference (or only the rating). Even if you have clear cut difference in construction, the time of filteration doesn't vary significantly.

If you are concerned about flow time, use a larger capacity filter with a higher flow rating.
