Find corresponding X value for maximum Y

If I have

x:=1,2..4

y:=x+1

x=1,2,3,4
y=2,3,4,5

I can do max, but how do I get it to return what x causes the max?

I cannot do differentiation because I have a more complex equation with absolute value and thus is discontinuous.

If x and y are both vectors you can use:

lookup(max,y,x)
