Find right material for shaft 1

Hi guys
New guys here. My name is Kris and I live and work in Illinois.
I need help with my new design. I have to find what will be a sufficient material to use it on the application showed on the image I have attached to this thread. This is a visualization of the actual compound bow cam system. I hope this will help anyone at least little bit so to help me. I just don't want the shaft to bent much of course [bigsmile]

You have not provided anywhere near enough information for us to specify anything to you.

What is the envelope in which your shaft must fit? Are parts going to be pressed or slip fit to this shaft, or will it need keyways or special features to accommodate set screws in mating parts? What is the environment in which the shaft will live? What are the application requirements for corrosion resistance? Is cosmetic appearance important? Will the shaft be coated or otherwise treated for corrosion resistance or cosmetic reasons? How important is cost?

All of the above matter.

Your drawing is not clear. Is the cam fixed to the shaft? How is it fixed to the shaft? You have not left much space. What are those big rectangular (cylindrical?) things? Are they fixed to the shaft? Is there a constraint on the diameter of your shaft or of the thickness of your cam? Is torque being transmitted? How fast does this rotate?

If you put pressure on your shafts, they will bend. This is Hooke's Law.

You need something stiff and corrosion resistant. That would be some grade of stainless steel. Annealed 303 stainless has a yield stress of around 30ksi. You should be able to do the calculations to determine if this is adequate or not.

That part would typically be a hardened steel dowel pin, usually chrome plated. You buy these off the shelf. Try McMaster.com.
