When I try to use the Find Tool in an R11 assy to search for a component, it acts like its searching but never gives me any feedback.

I can test the find tool by looking for something I know is there and I know where it is. When I do the search it will highlight the component in the browser. Only problem is... if I don't know where a item is I'll never find it in a large assembly.

What am I missing? Surely this tool works better than this.

When it highlights the component in the browser, right-click on it and then click on "Find in Window." This will zoom in on the location of the component in the assembly, as well as, highlight it. Now, if the component is inside of the assembly, you will have to turn off visibility of other components before you will see it.

Also, you can right-click on the component in the tree and click on "Isolate." This will turn visibility off on EVERYTHING in the assembly except for the component in question.

BTW, if you want to find the part in the browser from the assembly, right-click on the model of the component and click on "Find in Browser."

I have never really used this tool so I may not know some tricks. That being said, I just tried it in an assembly and it doesn't seem to give you alot of feedback to tell you the program has done anything. It does however highlight the parts, that meet your criteria, in the assembly and in the model tree (albeit the highlight could be difficult to differntiate from non-highlighted parts in a large assembly). I'm not sure what else you are looking for it to do.

I get an error when I load the assembly that names a certain component. I thought I could use Find to locate it in the browser. It's buried somewhere.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Just a suggestion, but try opening it in "Design Assistant" and see if you can't locate the component from there.

Incidently, what error is it giving you?
