Is anyone familiar with a municipal code or rule of thumb regarding the maximum distance a fire hydrant lead (off the WM serving the hydrant)? I suspect this may be related to concerns of stagnant water. Thanks.
Our local jurisdiction restricts it to 50' max from the main. Some allow longer but require you to upsize the pipe from the typical 6" diameter to 8". Partly concerns due to stagnant water, and partly due to friction losses through the pipe when the hydrant is flowed.
