Dear friends,

I have a question regarding the standard installation (the safe distance) for fire hydrant from the protected area. We have a fire hydrant at our plant locates just around 6 metres from the protected area which is the bunded area (NGL Storage Tank). My question: Is there any standard document for the installation? And also, is there any document saying minimum distance is 6 metres. Thanks.

Regards,

I went through this recently and my separation to the building was less than the code dictates but it is allowed if the AHJ aproves it

check for nfpa standard for your building. it depends. like in the passenger terminal building in nfpa 415. hydrants should be place so that no area is 500meters from the hydrants.

Thank you for your inputs.

is there any specific document relates to oil and gas industry?

I think NFPA 13 & 15 might give you an answer, if not go to API R14G

NFPA 24-2013 edition section 7.2.3 says not less than 12m from building or other structure, this is also used in one of our O&G project.
