fire rated walls

i am building a metal buildng 40 x 60. The code calls for a two hour fire rating for the mechanical room, i was going to use masonary, the inspector will not let me because the initial plans didnt take into affect the weight on the floor. i'm gonna build them,i have no idea where to start and what kind of material to use, please help!!!

I'm by no means an expert but couldn't you use a fireboard like Super Firetemp or Durock or some other fireboard? Remember to use firestopping around all penetrations such as from a Specified Technologies Inc. SpecSeal product line.
 
I believe that 2 layers of 5/8" type X gypsum sheathing over wood studs will achieve a 2-hr rating. If in doubt - contact a local architect - they should be able to tell you definatevly (or if you want to do it yourself, go to the library and find a Underwritters Laboratory book called "Fire Resistance Directory"
