manufacturers have tables for ratings of walls made from fire resistant gypsum boards. In US such FR gypsum boards are usually type X gypsum boards. In Europe they have a similar type.

I would like to be able to determine fire ratings of an ordinary gypsum boards

Typically a 1/2-inch drywall with 3 1/2-inch stud wall will yield a 15-minute fire resistance rating, but is still dependant on installation quality.

You can also browse the UL certifications site at UL.com for differant gypsum wall types/construction types for the various fire ratings.

The thickness of the layer is important but so is its orientation and application. The requirements vary if you are designing a fire wall, fire barrier or horizontal barrier under the requirements of the 2006 IBC.

Go to the US Gpysum Association website and download GYP-600, which is the fire resistive construction directory for all things gypsum. I would send you a link but I am in the airport and my laptop battery is about to die.
