Hello - I'm not sure if this is the right forum, but I'm hoping someone can help provide some insignt to fire rated roof assemblies (e.g. 1-hour rated). I was able to find some references in the building code for some construction types, but it still seems unclear to me when a fire rated roof assembly is required. Can someone please shed some light or point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance!

I think the liked paper provide a good understanding on fire rating requirement of roof assembly. Link

The IBC has several generic ones listed - sounds like you found those.

The rest are determined through testing. UL Laboratories seems to have a bit of a monopoly on that - somebody please correct me if I'm wrong.

Unfortunately, they've locked down their assemblies and to search the master list you have to pass through a pay wall.

If it's a wall or ceiling, most gyp product manufactures (like USG) have PDFs that list all of the assemblies you can build with their products.

Required or not, duration and type, is specified by the local building code of the jurisdiction.

retired - duration is specified the by code. Type is another story. There are a few generic things listed in the code (type and thickness of concrete, cladding type and clear distance between buildings, etc.), but most of them come from proprietary labs.

703.2 Fire-Resistance Ratings said:

The fire-resistance rating of penetrations and fire-resistant joint systems shall be determined in accordance Sections 714 and 715, respectively.
