For one of Fertiliser Plant project, there is a Hot Gas generator for supplying Hot gas ( fuel is Natural gas / Diesel Oil)to the Rotary Drier to dry the fertiliser granules. It has been specified in the equipment data that API 560 and RP 556 is applicable for this. Where as these standards are mainly applicable for the Petrochemical / General Refinery service. My question here is " Whether Hot gas generators (HGG) for applications as indicated above should comply with API 560 and RP 556? I think it will only increase the cost. However vendor also says that these standards are not applicable for these HGGs. They have agreed to comply with NFPA 85 also. The heat duty of the HGG is 15,00,000 Kcal/hr9 max) and the temp might be in the range of 600 Deg C. Please advise

API RP 556 covers the instrumentation for fired heaters. This is a good standard for the controls. NFPA 85 is also good as applied to boilers. If the duty is over about 25 million BTU per hour I would apply these standards.

as owner operator, it's your choice. You specify the Lower Slobian (from Dilbert) standards if you choose.
