FIT TEXT 2

ARE THERE ANY EX-ACAD USERS WHO ARE NOW SOLIDWORKS EXPERTS WHO CAN OFFER ANY INFORMATION ON HOW I WOULD FIT TEXT INTO AN AREA?

FOR THOSE WHO DO NOT KNOW ACAD, FIT TEXT ALLOWS YOU TO STRETCH OR SHRINK THE LENGTH OF TEXT TO FIT INTO A PRE-DEFINED BOX, IT LEAVES THE HEIGHT OF THE TEXT THE SAME. VERY VERY NICE TOOL TO HAVE!

Sadly, there is no way that I know of to "Fit Text." Someone may have written an API for it. Try posting to the solidworks newsgroup... comp.cad.solidworks.

My only recommendation is to play with fonts and text sizes to get the text to fit.

The only place I know to do something like this is under the properties of the text. Go to the properties of the text and look at the bottom left side of the properties window under Border. There you can pick box, then pick the below combo box to say tight fit. Now the text will have a box around it tight fitted.

To be a little more specific, I know of fonts (such as Arial) that have a "narrow" version. When I used "fit text" it was usually in a title block where I needed a lot of information in the predefined box so I had to compress the width of the text, but not the height (rarely did I stretch the text). So, if it is in your title block, you can edit your sheet format to use the narrow font for that field.

Also, to get really crazy. When in your SolidWorks 2001 drawing (I'm assuming you're in a drawing because part/assembly notes really don't have to be fit), you can use the Insert pulldown menu and insert an Object. Pick a MS Word document or MS WordArt to get the text just as funky as you need. It's not pretty, but it gets the job done.
