Hello All,
The subject component consists of upper and lower flat, circular, plates. The plates are separated by square bars or rings (multiple diameter rings). The upper plate is joined to the rings by fillet welds (skip) and the bottom plate is joined to the rings via slotted plug welds.
I'm looking to evaluate areas of local thinning occurring on the exterior of both plates. However, API 579-1/ASME FFS-1 does not appear to directly (or indirectly) address fitness for service evaluation for this design.
Has anyone here attempted to perform a fitness for service evaluation of this nature and if so, what general methodology did you use (in accordance with ASME Code) in your approach?
Many thanks!
